Flying - One-hour first lesson

One-hour first lesson

Your first lesson is one of the most important. Anticipation starts to build from the moment you drive up to the flying school. Some people (as all of us here at LOOP did) feel rather silly as they walk into the clubhouse and announce they are there for their first lesson. Don’t worry – everyone in that clubhouse has made the same walk and they all understand.

And they want you to fly.

So, try to relax and take it all in. Your instructor will come over to meet you and chat. They will want to reassure you, and make this an experience you enjoy so much you’ll want to come back – or at the very least tell your friends how wonderful it was.

So there you are, the aircraft is out on the runway and you’ve met the instructor. It’s now time to go out and have a look at the aircraft you’ll be flying. It’s a simple affair and once you understand how flight works (you may well know already) you’ll start to feel more comfortable. Your excitement will build even more!

Once into the aircraft, it’s procedure time. Safety and start-up procedures will go by in a blur, but don’t worry – your first lesson is not intended to teach you everything. Your NPPL requires 32 hours’ flying time and many hours of ‘on the ground’ study. We want you to be able to go away from this knowing the basic flight control inputs and having flown them all by yourself.

You’ll be amazed how intuitive it all is and you’ll know by the end of this flight whether you want to be a pilot or not. The grin from ear to ear is the first sign that addiction to flying is setting in.

If you think flying is for you, buy a log book and enter that first hour. It will count towards your Pilot’s Licence whether you continue learning at the same club or elsewhere.

On our website, we have some special deals for learn to fly packages that include everything you’ll need (including your own flight bag) to get your Pilot’s Licence – and save £135 on the total price!
