Our microlight flying lessons take place in a three-axis aircraft. These are not to be confused with the aircraft that resemble a hang glider with an engine.
The modern microlight is difficult to differentiate from a fixed-wing Group A and quite often their performance is better than a fixed-wing Group A aircraft. As such, we think that the term microlight is rather outdated!
One thing that stays the same though, is the grin that flying will give you, whether in a fixed-wing or a microlight.
Your instructor will take you through all the control surfaces, including the rudder, aileron and elevator and explain how each affects flight, but the best way is to show you!
As you line up on the runway and power is increased, you’ll be forgiven for the heightened anticipation as you launch into the air in a remarkably short time. The beauty of microlights is that they take off in such a short distance. We know private owners who fly them from their back gardens.
Once up in the air, you’ll take control and the instructor will talk you through the basics of aircraft flight. You’ll learn how to use the elevator, the ailerons and the rudder and fly the aircraft. After this we hope come back and learn to fly!
